Chris is originally from Utica, New York, and is a graduate from Ohio University (Bobcats) with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences with a Minor in Business Management. Chris ran track and played Division I-A football for the Ohio Bobcats and lettered all four years. In 2010 he began his professional career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp, and shortly after began his 4 year career in the CFL (Canadian Football League) as an undrafted free agent. He played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where he had a total of 111 carries with an average of 6.5 yards per carry. In 2013, Chris reached one of his greatest achievements when he won the Grey Cup with the Saskatchewan Rough Riders. Aside from playing football, Chris loves to give back to his community and created "The Chris Garrett Scholarship fund".

In 2013, The Chris Garrett Scholarship Fund was established to help graduating seniors, one female and one male, who will be attending college in the fall and participating in a sport. As an alumni of Stonewall Jackson High School, Chris wanted to give back. He believes it's important to always remember where you came from and to help others accomplish their dreams.

Chris joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in September of 2010 playing five regular season games, rushing for 113 yards on 19 carries. He returned to Winnipeg in August the next season playing in the final six regular season games while rushing for 576 yards and four touchdowns. He was named CFL Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 190 yards and one touchdown in the 2011 East Final for the 99th Grey Cup against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

On September 4, 2013, Chris signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.  On November 4, 2013, He was named the CFL Gibson’s Finest Offensive Player of the Week following the regular season finale versus the Edmonton Eskimos. The first-year Rider and four year CFL veteran ran for 152 yards and a touchdown on 23 rush attempts while adding three catches for 28 yards. Chris and the Saskatchewan Roughriders went on to win the 101st CFL Grey Cup on November 24, 2013 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Chris graduated from Ohio University (Bobcats) in 2010. While playing for the Ohio Bobcats football team, Chris was also a successful track athlete. These are just a few of his accomplishments:

2006:

- Named Third-Team Freshman All-American by The Sporting News as a return specialist

- Named All-MAC as a return man

- Led the MAC and ranked seventh in the nation with a 14.5 punt return average, the second-highest in school history

- Ranked second in Bobcat single-season punt return yards

- Named MAC East Division Special Teams Player of the Week twice

2007:

- Selected as first-team Preseason All-MAC at kick returner

- Set career high records in kick returns yards, rushing yards, and receptions

2008:

- Named third-team All-MAC

- Ohio's career leader in kick return average

- Finished 6th in the MAC in all-purpose yardage

- Team's leading rusher

- Set a school record for all-purpose yards

- First-ever Bobcat to return more than one kick for a touchdown

- Named MAC East Special Teams Players of the week following the season finale
